There are almost no words to explain how I am feeling knowing that in just two short days we will be leaving for Zambia. I have only ever traveled outside of the United States once. I have lots of nerves about being on a plane for fifteen hours and potentially forgetting something very important. But then on the other end, I am filled with an enormous amount of excitement. I'm excited to meet the students we will be teaching, peers and professors at the University of Zambia, the women and Chicumbuso, and everyone in between. It amazes me that Buffalo State has such an incredible opportunity for students to embark on. I am hopeful that once returning from this trip I will have gained valuable life lessons that will stay with me for the rest of my life. These experiences will not only help me with my teaching career but my outlook on life and hopefully appreciate the little things more than I do now. It is also my hope that through these blogs I will be able to express my thoughts and experiences through words.

AuthorMy name is Alexis Turan and I am a graduate student at Buffalo State. I am pursuing my dual Masters in Early Childhood Education and Special Education. Since I was twelve I have been volunteering and working in schools which has entirely driven my passion for teaching. It has always been a dream of mine to take my experience abroad and further my learning. I am beyond excited to be accompanying such an amazing group of people to Lusaka, Zambia! ArchivesCategories |
